We have a project looking at the city hall surrounds and we noted the two cannons are in need of some restoration – the challenge at the moment is to find out which department owns them and whether they have any funding for a restoration as the one is missing a wheel and the other a wheel is starting to break up.
If you have any info – I would appreciate some feedback

Hi Martin
That is sad as those two field guns have been there for ever. I seem to recall they are World War 1 vintage but as to who owns them is anybody’s guess. Is there no one at Warrior’s Gate who can throw some light on them? Maybe one of the MOTH associations associated with field artillery if they still exist.

I found this under the “The South African
Military History Society “website. I know they relate to Pietermaritzburg, but may help identify the Durban “cannons”. Perhaps someone at the Military History Society could shed some light on the subject?. Link to SAMHS below.
