I went
for a walk along the beachfront this morning and got a hell
of a shock when I realised that I was looking at a section
of beach where the Lido was not all that long ago. I had no
inkling that the building had been demolished. It was a large
building and there is now no sign I could see that it ever
existed.
It was
there right on the beach [see here
for some details]:

And then
it wasn't:

Looking
south at the XL Restaurant. Note the semi-circular concrete
structure on the right, where the beach and walkway
join. Was that the location of the Little
Top, I wonder.

A
view looking south towards the harbour mouth. The Lido
was just here on the beach, so its a view you wouldn't
have had before.

Looking
north from the walkway more or less opposite where the
Lido was. The steps in the middle distance lead up to
West Street, which runs to the left of the Beach Hotel.
On the right of the Beach Hotel is the Bad Morals (Balmoral)
Hotel, and then then comes the Edward Hotel and the
Holiday Inn.
The
old aquarium would have obscured the grey wall beyond
the steps and streched over to the right and quite close
to the beach.
